Privacy and Data: Your First Decisions
When getting started with Vaktim, three things are consciously your choice: whether analytics/diagnostics data is collected, whether your worship progress is transferred to the cloud, and what happens if you decide to delete your account. In all three, the default favors your privacy; none of them work without your explicit consent.
Summary in 30 Seconds
- Analytics / diagnostics (telemetry) OFF by default. No data is collected unless you turn it on from Settings.
- Cloud sync OFF by default. Prayer, Quran, dua and dhikr progress is transferred to the cloud only with your explicit consent.
- There is a 14-day undo period on account deletion. You can change your mind within this period; permanent deletion happens after 14 days.
1. Analytics and Diagnostics (Telemetry)
Vaktim may use analytics (Firebase Analytics) and error diagnostics (Sentry) tools to understand the app's stability and usage. This is off by default: opt-in, meaning no analytics or diagnostics data is collected until you give explicit consent.
How do you check it?
- Go to Settings > Privacy / Analytics and Diagnostics.
- If the switch is off, you don't need to do anything; no data is collected.
- If you want to help us improve the app, turn the switch on; you can turn it off again at any time.
When you turn the switch off, new data collection stops. The decision is entirely yours, and the app's core functions (prayer times, notifications, qibla) work independently of this switch.
2. Cloud Sync
Cloud sync lets you carry your worship progress across devices. Because prayer, Quran, dua and dhikr progress is considered sensitive (religious) data, sync is off by default and turns on only with your explicit consent.
What you need to know
- Off by default: Unless you turn it on, your worship data is not sent to the cloud; in guest mode there is no data in the cloud anyway.
- Turns on with explicit consent: When you enable sync, you clearly see what is transferred.
- What happens when you turn it off: If you turn sync off, new transfers stop, but your existing data previously sent to the cloud is not automatically deleted. If you also want your cloud data deleted, you need to request that separately.
If you experience issues with sync, you can check out the Quran / dhikr progress not syncing guide.
3. Account Deletion and the 14-Day Undo
If you have a registered account and decide to delete it, your deletion request does not become permanent immediately. Vaktim grants a 14-day undo period. During this period your account is marked for deletion but can be restored.
How does it work?
- When you submit the deletion request, a 14-day countdown begins.
- During this period an information banner is shown on the home screen; from there you can cancel the deletion.
- When the 14 days are up, the account and associated data are permanently deleted.
So even after you decide, there is a 14-day window for you to change your mind. For all the steps of the deletion flow, review the Deleting my account and data guide.
If You're Still Unsure
If you have any doubts about one of the privacy or data decisions, write to us; just let us know which switch you're asking about and your device.
